Can Alexa control my lights and appliances?

Yes! If you connect smart devices like smart lights, plugs, or switches (such as Sonoff, Govee, etc.), you can control them with your voice through Alexa. For example, you can say “Alexa, turn off the living room lights,” or “Turn on the water heater,” without moving from your spot!

Can Alexa understand English, Arabic, or French?

Alexa understands English and French. For now, Alexa doesn’t officially support Arabic in our region, but you can still ask her questions and give commands in English or French without any problem. Most people in Lebanon use Alexa in English, and it works perfectly for everyday tasks like checking the weather, playing music, setting alarms, and controlling smart devices.

Does Alexa work if the internet goes out?

Alexa needs a Wi-Fi connection to work properly. If your internet goes out, you won’t be able to ask Alexa new questions or control smart devices by voice. However, some smart devices might still work manually through their own apps or physical switches.

Does Alexa keep working during a power cut (EDL)?

Alexa needs both power and Wi-Fi, so during an EDL cut it pauses until your power and internet are back – just like your router. The good news: as soon as the power returns, Alexa reconnects on its own, with no setup needed. If you want voice control to ride through short cuts, pair your router and Echo with a small UPS or an inverter/battery. Not sure what fits your setup? Message us on WhatsApp and we’ll help you choose.

Can multiple people in my house use Alexa?

Yes! Everyone at home can talk to Alexa. You can also set up voice profiles, so Alexa recognizes who’s speaking and gives personalized answers – like your own music playlists, calendar, or shopping list. Super practical for families!

Can Alexa call my family and friends?

Yes! Alexa can make voice or video calls to your family and friends who also have the Alexa app or an Echo device. You just say “Alexa, call Mama,” and she’ll do it for you – hands-free! (Internet is needed on your Alexa device and on your mom’s phone where the app is installed, of course.)

Is Alexa always listening to me? (Is it safe?)

Alexa listens only for the wake word (“Alexa”). She starts recording and sending to the cloud only after you say “Alexa.” You can always mute the microphone on your Echo device whenever you want for extra privacy – a small button on the device turns it off.

Do I need one in every room?

You don’t have to put an Alexa device in every room – but if you want to control your smart home easily from anywhere in the house, it’s a good idea to have one in the rooms you use the most, like the living room, bedroom, or kitchen. Some people start with one Echo device and add more over time, depending on their needs and the size of their home.
