How It Works

1
Turn off the breaker
Cut power to the wall switch you want to upgrade. Open the wall plate.
2
Wire the ZBMINIL2
Connect L (Live) to the input and the wire to the lamp to the load output. Connect the wall-switch wires to the switch input. Tuck in the back-box.
3
Pair with Zigbee Bridge
Open eWeLink → Zigbee Bridge → "Add subdevice". Hold the ZBMINIL2's reset button for 5 seconds. Pairs in 30 seconds.
4
Set schedules + share
Set timers, scenes, or motion triggers in eWeLink. Share access with family so everyone can control it.

Sonoff Zigbee Mini Smart Switch — ZBMINIL2 (No Neutral Wire Needed)

The Sonoff ZBMINIL2 is a Zigbee (a wireless smart home protocol that connects devices through a hub) smart switch that installs behind your existing wall switch — and the best part: it does not require a neutral wire (a specific wire (usually blue) in your electrical box). This makes it compatible with older Lebanese homes where the neutral wire isn’t available at the switch box.

Once installed, control your lights from your phone, set schedules, and create automations through a Zigbee hub.

Key Features:

  • No Neutral Wire Needed: Works with just the live and load wires — ideal for older homes without a neutral wire at the switch.
  • Ultra-Compact: One of the smallest Zigbee switches — fits in standard Lebanese wall boxes (120, 86, and EU types).
  • Works with External Switches: Compatible with rocker and push-button switches.
  • Works Offline: Since it uses Zigbee (not Wi-Fi), it keeps working through your hub even if your internet goes down.
  • Scheduling & Scenes: Set timers and create automations with other Zigbee devices.
  • Voice Control: Works with Google Assistant and Alexa (through a Zigbee hub).

💡 Pro Tip: If your home doesn’t have a neutral wire at the switch box (common in older Lebanese apartments), this is your best option for a behind-the-switch smart module. No rewiring needed.

What You Get

No neutral wire — at all
Many older Lebanese homes don't have a neutral at the switch box. The ZBMINIL2 doesn't need one — just live and load.
Fits Lebanese wall boxes
Ultra-compact — slides behind 86, 120, or EU-type wall switches. No drilling, no new plate.
Zigbee — works through Wi-Fi drops
Once paired to the Bridge, automations run locally. Even if your router reboots, schedules and scenes keep firing.
Schedules + automations
Daily timers, motion-trigger scenes, group control — everything you'd expect from a Sonoff device.
Alexa + Google
Once on the Bridge, ask Alexa or Google to control the light by voice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why no neutral wire? What's the catch?
It draws a trickle of current through the load (light bulb) to power itself. Works great with most LED, halogen, and incandescent bulbs. Very-low-wattage LEDs (under 5W) may flicker — a fix is to add a small bypass capacitor across the bulb, or use a slightly higher-wattage bulb.
Will it fit my Legrand / 80 / 86 switch box?
It fits behind almost every Lebanese wall switch — 86, 120, and EU types. It's one of the smallest smart relays on the market specifically for this reason.
Do I need a hub for this?
Yes — it's a Zigbee device, not Wi-Fi. You need a Sonoff Zigbee Bridge Pro, NSPanel Pro, or iHost. Once paired, the Bridge handles all communication and you get phone, voice, and automation control.
What's the difference between this and the MINIR4?
MINIR4 needs a neutral wire and uses Wi-Fi (no hub). The ZBMINIL2 doesn't need a neutral and uses Zigbee (needs a Bridge). Pick the ZBMINIL2 only if you don't have a neutral wire at the switch box, or if you want everything on Zigbee.
How do I install it?
Turn off the breaker. Open the wall plate. Connect L (Live) to the input, and the wire going to the light to the load output. The existing wall switch wires connect to the switch input. Tuck it in the box, close the plate, turn power back on, pair via Zigbee Bridge in eWeLink.
Will my wall switch still work manually?
Yes — flip the wall switch and the light still toggles physically. The smart layer is on top — phone, voice, or schedules all work alongside the wall switch.
Does it support 2-way switches (hallway with two switches)?
Yes — it supports rocker and push-button styles. Push-button (momentary) style works best for 2-way / multi-location setups.
Does it work during EDL cuts?
It needs power to operate. As long as your Zigbee Bridge stays on (e.g. on a small UPS), and the light circuit has power (e.g. from a generator or inverter), the switch keeps working.
