Smart switches in Lebanon: a buying guide

A smart switch lets you turn a light, a water heater or a whole circuit on and off from your phone, on a schedule or with your voice. Most models hide behind the wall switch you already have, so the switch keeps working as before. Use the table below to find the right one for the job.

Questions

Can I make my existing light switch smart?

Yes. A small relay fits in the wall box behind your existing switch. You keep the same switch, and you can also control the light from your phone, on a schedule or with your voice.

What if my wall box has no neutral wire?

Choose a no-neutral model, such as the Sonoff ZBMINI-L2. It is a Zigbee device, so it needs a Sonoff Zigbee hub, and the light it controls must use at least 3W.

How can I control my water heater from my phone?

Use a smart circuit breaker rated for the heater. Our 63A smart breakers fit in your electrical panel and let you switch the water heater on and off, or on a schedule, from your phone. An electrician should install it.

Do smart switches need a hub?

Wi-Fi models do not. They connect straight to your home router. Zigbee models, which have ZB in the name, need a Sonoff Zigbee hub.

Will my normal wall switch still work?

Yes. The relay works with rocker, push-button and toggle switches, so you can still use the switch by hand.

Can I see how much electricity my home uses?

Yes. Models with power metering show live watts and amps in the app, and an energy monitor that clips around a cable in your panel shows the use of the whole home.
